Green Computing
With more and more people using computers, both at home and at the office, practicing green computing is an important part of reducing your environmental impact. We are all becoming aware of the impact of increasing our computer usage. Reducing the use of hazardous materials in computers, encouraging the recycling of old computers, promoting the idea of telecommuting, and making computers more energy efficient all help make a significant impact on reducing greenhouse gases and their environmental impact.
We are promoting the idea of a technology called Thin Clients. The traditional PC takes up a greater amount of space on a desk, runs a fan constantly to reduce the heat from the computer, uses a great amount of energy, and creates office noise. The technology of the Thin Client reduces all of this. Here are some of the benefits of Thin Client technology.
• Cutting the energy usage from 400W with the old PCs to 6W of power with Thin Client.
• Thin client have not moving parts in them such as hard drives and fans reducing the noise produced while running to nothing.
• Thin clients have only a circuit board and create little to no heat in an office.
• Thin clients take up very little or no office or desk space. Units as small as a book can be mounted on the back of an LCD monitor, eliminating the use of valuable desk and office space.
• Thin clients are easier for a company’s IT department to manage by reducing the down time for repair from hours to minutes.
Please ask us how we can help you reduce your environmental impact and make you a more green company!
